'Linlithgow Learns'
Building upon the improvement feedback received last session with regards how the Academy can better assist parents/carers to support their child's learning at home, the following strategy is being developed.
'Linlithgow Learns' sets out a timeline of opportunities and events being offered this academic session to build our partnership between school and families. The timeline will use the following three headings to identify the various options.
1. Parental Involvement
Parental involvement is about supporting pupils and their learning. It is about parents and teachers working together in partnership to help children become more confident learners.
2. Parental Engagement
Parental engagement can be considered as active engagement in learning. Parental engagement is supported by discussion between parents and teachers and focuses on how families can build upon what they already do to help their children's learning and provide a supportive home learning environment. There is a continuum between parental involvement and parental engagement with a 'shift in emphasis, away from the relationship between parents and schools, to a focus on the relationship between parents and their children's learning.
3. Family Learning
Family Learning encourages family members to learn together with a focus on intergenerational learning. Family learning activities can be specifically designed to enable parents to learn how to support their children's learning. Family learning is a powerful method of engagement and learning which can foster positive attitudes towards life-long learning, promote socio-economic resilience and challenge educational disadvantage. A family learning approach gives parents, families and children the tools from which they can continue to learn at home together.

| 'How can I help with Senior Physics (Nat 5 and Higher)' Thursday 14th November 2024 We know many parents maybe don't know how to support their children with Physics when they don't know the subject themselves. This session is for parents who don't feel confident with Physics themselves, have a child being presented for National 5 or Higher Physics and would like some ideas of how to support them.
