Our Vision and Values

Welcome to the Creative Faculty

The Creative Faculty at Linlithgow Academy is an energetic and talented team of teachers across Art & Design, Music and Physical Education. Led by a Principal Teacher of Curriculum, our staff are passionate about nurturing creativity, expression, and wellbeing, helping every learner discover their unique potential. We believe that creativity is not limited to a subject area, but is a vital skill for life, learning and work.

Dynamic and Inspiring Curriculum

Our curriculum offers a rich blend of artistic, musical and physical experiences that build confidence, imagination and skill. From S1 to S3, learners explore all creative disciplines through engaging, hands-on courses designed to develop practical ability, teamwork and curiosity. As learners progress, they can specialise in areas such as:

  • Art & Design — developing creative thinking, design skills and visual communication

  • Music — fostering performance, composition and collaboration

  • Physical Education — promoting wellbeing, leadership and resilience.

Learners in S3 also complete a Level 5 Wellbeing Award in partnership with RMPS, providing valuable opportunities for interdisciplinary learning and reflection.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

We know creativity thrives when learning extends beyond the classroom. From school concerts and art exhibitions to sports leadership roles and national competitions, our learners shine on local, regional and national stages.
Highlights include:

  • The Advanced Higher Art & Design Show showcasing student talent

  • West Lothian Musician of the Year and vibrant school performances

  • Pupils representing Linlithgow Academy at a range of sporting events and leadership opportunities through Sport Captains and Referee training

These experiences encourage confidence, teamwork and pride in achievement.

Collaboration and Innovation

Our faculty works collaboratively across subjects to share practice, inspire innovation and embrace new technologies. Teachers engage actively in CLPL and national network sessions, exploring fresh ideas and strengthening pedagogy.
We make effective use of digital learning tools and creative technology to enrich lessons, ensuring every student benefits from engaging, inclusive and forward-thinking teaching.

Celebrating Achievement and Voice

We take pride in celebrating the talents and successes of our learners, whether that is a winning sports performance, a stunning art portfolio or a memorable concert performance.
Student leadership is central to our work: Art Ambassadors, Sport Captains, and Music Leaders help to shape our faculty direction, ensuring that student voice remains at the heart of everything we do. We value creativity as a means of personal expression, wellbeing and connection.

Commitment to Excellence

The Creative Faculty is committed to continual growth and reflection. Through the school's CORE learning framework and a strong culture of professional dialogue, our teachers continuously refine their practice to provide meaningful, inclusive and high-quality learning experiences. Our goal is to inspire learners to be imaginative thinkers, confident performers and active contributors to their communities, now and in the future.
