The Languages, English and Drama Faculty at Linlithgow Academy is a dynamic and creative team dedicated to developing confident communicators and imaginative thinkers. Through inspiring courses in English, Modern Languages and Drama, we help learners express themselves, celebrate culture and connect with the world around them, preparing them for life, learning and work.
Welcome to the Languages, English and Drama Faculty
The Languages, English and Drama Faculty at Linlithgow Academy is a vibrant, creative and forward-thinking team of dedicated teachers across three departments. We are passionate about developing confident, articulate learners who can communicate effectively, think critically and express themselves with clarity and imagination.
Dynamic and Inclusive Curriculum
We offer a rich and varied curriculum that supports every learner to achieve their potential across English, Modern Languages and Drama.
Our courses foster essential skills for life, learning and work, with strong emphasis on:
- Literacy and communication
- Collaboration and creativity
- Empathy and global citizenship
Learners explore diverse texts, cultures and performances, with opportunities to study French, Spanish, English, Literature and Communications, ESOL, Drama and the NPA in Musical Theatre. Through new pathways such as Journalism and Literature and Communications, we ensure all learners can progress and succeed in ways that suit their interests and ambitions.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
We believe the power of language and performance extends far beyond the classroom walls. From theatre trips and author visits to YPI projects and public speaking events, our learners experience education that is both engaging and relevant.
Senior Ambassadors in each department lead on learning initiatives, mentoring younger pupils and helping to promote a culture of pride and participation.
Strong Partnerships
We work closely with a range of partners, including Education Scotland, Edinburgh College and local creative industries, to offer experiences that connect learning with the world of work.
These partnerships enhance our Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) goals and help our young people see where skills in communication, creativity and languages can take them.
Celebrating Achievement and Voice
Our faculty is proud of our learners' success, from outstanding Higher and National 5 results to Drama performances, debating achievements and creative writing showcases.
We actively promote student voice through our Faculty Parliament, focus groups and collaborative projects, ensuring learners help shape their learning journey.
Commitment to Excellence
We are committed to continuous reflection and improvement through the school's CORE learning framework. Across all subjects, we promote inclusive and high-quality learning where every student can thrive.
Our shared goal is simple: to equip young people with the language, confidence and creativity to make their mark on the world.
