Faculty Improvement Plan 2025.2026
Our CORE approaches enable high quality teaching and learning in the classroom.
- Reference and revisit Big Questions throughout blocks of Learning with approaches used to deliver focus within each area.
 Continue to review the learning process and make connections in learning to ensure learners knowledge and skills are development moving from BGE into Senior Phase.
Using the CORE practice resource pack within the faculty to support lesson planning and preparation.
Peer Observations will be introduced with staff identifying areas of CORE to focus on.
Feedback from these will be given through DM and Faculty Meetings providing CLPL opportunities for all staff.
Teachers demonstrate increased confidence in applying strategies to promote inclusion, wellbeing and equity to meet learners' needs.
- Increase learners' roles within PE when unable to participate due to long term illness or injury.
 - Increase use of wellbeing baskets across the faculty to consider the nature of the subject and therefore how we can best support all students.
 - Staff training in Restorative Practice - 'Managing Difficult Conversations Trauma Informed Skilled training and MAYBO WL training
 - Faculty/Department Positive Recognition systems to be introduced to celebrate student success within the classroom
 - Increase the roles students take within our faculty leadership groups - Art Ambassadors / Sport Captains / Pupil Parliament /Music Ambassadors
 - Increase links with West Lothian college for Art & Design students to inspire our Senior Phase students to consider pathways in the creative industries. Life Drawing Links to aid portfolio
 
Our shared understanding of progression enables our young people to achieve in their learning.
- All staff can articulate progress in BGE using levels and shades of green which supports learner development and progress.
 - Learners can articulate their progress within levels across the whole faculty, knowing strengths and next steps.
 - Pupil tracking sheets to be implemented within PE to support Learning Conversations with BGE students.
 - Implementation of Music performance criteria sheets within day-to-day lessons to ensure students are aware of progress and next steps more frequently.
 - Continuation of critical reflection of practical folios within Art & Design for all BGE students. Using set criteria to identify strengths and next steps.
 - Tracking & Monitoring systems to be rolled out in PE with new 1-6 criteria which reflects the Levels 3 & 4.
 - Identification of homework & assessment periods within both BGE & Senior Phase courses across the faculty to ensure timely points of gathering data to support progression.
