Science Faculty: Celebrating Student Achievement
Within the Science Faculty at Linlithgow Academy, staff prioritise positive relationships in their day-to-day practice. This includes building respectful and supportive relationships with pupils, recognising effort and using praise to reinforce positive behaviours in the classroom.
Through consistent encouragement, clear expectations and a focus on wellbeing, staff create a learning environment where pupils feel valued, motivated and supported to succeed. In line with the school's Positive Relationships Statement, staff actively recognise positive actions and achievement. This may take the form of verbal praise, recognition in lessons and communication with home to highlight positive contributions to learning.
One of the key ways we do this within the Science Faculty is through our monthly 'Science Spotlight'. Each month, a scientist is used as a theme to recognise pupils who demonstrate particular qualities associated with successful learning in science. This allows us to celebrate not only attainment, but also the values of curiosity, perseverance, creativity and responsibility. At the end of each month, staff identify pupils who have best demonstrated these qualities. A Groupcall message is then sent home to parents and carers to share and celebrate this success, helping to strengthen the partnership between school and home.
