Welcome to the Humanities Faculty

Vision and Values 2023

The Humanities Faculty is proud to be a dynamic and forward-thinking team of 10 dedicated teachers. We continue to make significant strides in enriching our curriculum and expanding opportunities for our learners.

Diverse and Inclusive Curriculum

We offer a broad range of subjects including Social Studies, Travel and Tourism, Higher Politics and the S3 RMPS Wider Achievement Award. A major highlight has been the launch of our innovative S2 Social Studies integrated course, which fosters:

  • Meta-skills development
  • Enquiry-based learning
  • Learning for Sustainability
  • UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child) themes

Our S1 and S2 Social Studies curriculum is built around three powerful themes: Migration, Adversity and Marginalisation, encouraging learners to explore global issues with empathy and critical thinking.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

We believe in holistic education. Our students have participated in enriching educational trips to Iceland, Belgium and London, bringing classroom learning to life.

Strong Partnerships

We continue to build meaningful partnerships with organisations such as:

  • Police Scotland
  • The Burgh Halls
  • Historic Environment Scotland
  • Edinburgh College
  • The Scottish Parliament
  • Community Justice Scotland

These collaborations play a vital role in enhancing our Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) initiatives.

Celebrating Student Achievement

Our extracurricular programme is thriving. Highlights include:

  • Modern Studies Debating Club - 2nd place in the West Lothian Debating Competition
  • UNCRC Group - actively working towards their Gold Award

Empowering Student Voice

We've revitalised our Pupil Parliament and conducted multiple student voice surveys and focus groups to inform improvements in Learning and Teaching. New resources developed this year include:

  • Humanities Skills Placemat
  • Empathy Wheel
  • Questions for a Global Thinker (pedagogical tool in development)

Every classroom now features UNCRC cards to support critical thinking and learner engagement.

Commitment to Excellence

Through ongoing learning rounds and self-evaluation, we remain focused on continuous curriculum improvement and delivering high-quality learning experiences.
