Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)

Sharing thoughts, experiences and expert guidance on issues affecting you.

Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE)

All pupils in S1-S5 have one period of PSHE on their timetable and this is usually taught by their Head of House/Pupil Support Teacher.  Our Personal and Social Education (PSE) programme covers many of the Curriculum for Excellence Health and Wellbeing Experiences and Outcomes.  PSE is a place where we can ask questions and share our thoughts and opinions on a range of topics. Over the years we aim to develop various life skills including the ability to work well with others, through a variety of activities, including group presentations.

S1

In S1 we cover a variety of topics including Health and Wellbeing issues such as alcohol, smoking, positive relationships and online safety. We also cover Citizenship topics such as racism and human rights. We are pleased to have outside agencies such as our community Police Officer, the Samaritans and Skills Development Scotland contributing to some of the PSE lessons at key points in the year.

S2

In S2 we cover a variety of topics including Health and Wellbeing issues such as study skills, sexual health and relationship education, illegal drugs and good mental health. We are pleased to have outside agencies such as our community Police Officer and Skills Development Scotland contributing to some of the PSE lessons at key points in the year.

S3

In S3 we cover a variety of topics including Health and Wellbeing issues such as body image, HIV and AIDS, contraception,  sexual and gender preferences and discrimination, stress an and relationship education and good mental health. We are pleased to have outside agencies such as our community Police Officer and Skills Development Scotland and addiction speakers contributing to some of the PSE lessons at key points in the year.

We are pleased to have outside agencies such as our community Police Officer, Skills Development Scotland, LYPP and First Responders contributing to some of the PSE lessons at key points in the year.

S5

Our S5 Personal and Social Education (PSE) programme continues to cement the work already considered in S1-4, building on the knowledge and skills already gained.  Topics such as sexual health and relationships, domestic abuse, study skills, growth mind-set, careers and personal statements are also covered.

Pupils have the opportunity to gain an additional SCQF Level 6 Personal Development Qualifications through participating in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative.  This involves researching and presenting on a local charity whilst competing to win a £3,000 grant for their chosen charity.
