SQA Exam Timetable 2025
Following an SQA announcement today we wanted to update you on some important changes to the 2025 exam timetable that may affect your child. Subject teachers will also inform your child during class time if there has been a change to their subject exam SQA times.
SQA have informed us that the adjustments they have made to the exam timetable are to help manage exam workloads more effectively and comes from feedback received from schools, learners and parents regarding the impact of the previous compressed exam schedule.
What's Changing?
- The exam period will now start earlier, on Friday 25 April (previously Monday 28 April).
- The final exam date remains Monday 2 June.
- Adjustments have been made to reduce the number of coinciding exams and limit instances where learners have two exams in one day.
- These changes aim to help ease logistical challenges, particularly for those requiring additional support.
Subjects Affected
If your child is studying any of the following subjects, please note that their exam schedule has been updated:
Change of Exam Day:
- Computing Science (all levels)
- French (all levels)
- Modern Studies (all levels)
- Practical Woodworking - National 5
- Psychology (all levels)
Change of Exam Time:
- Biology - National 5
- RMPS - National 5
What This Means for Your Child
SQA indicate that these adjustments aim to create a fairer and more manageable exam schedule. The revised timetable has led to:
47% fewer coinciding exams
38% fewer instances of learners sitting two exams in one day
An additional day where all learners have only one exam

SQA will also update the MyExams app and provide instructions for learners on how to update their MyStudyPlan app via SQA News and social media.
These changes do impact on some of our original school plans, for example the final day of school before study leave/ timing of S6 BBQ/ leavers events etc. We will update you on this when we have had time to discuss and reorganise.
